These days the word ‘happy’ just seems over-used and confusing. Big questions like – “What makes you happy?”, “follow your happiness”, etc. What the hell does that even mean?
I propose a new word to use in place of “happiness”. After all language is usually what plunges us into despair, and it’s also the first thing to help us get out of it.
So instead of the word ‘happiness’, let’s choose NOURISHMENT.
What feels nourishing to you? Is it just me or is that a far easier question to answer? Doesn’t it give you a whole new perspective? For example – some people think eating a tub of ice-cream makes them happy. But if I asked them if it nourished them, there’s a pause. And it’s that PAUSE that makes all the difference.
This becomes even more obvious when you’re talking about people. Who nourishes you? Who shovels hope, sweetness, and a bit of a gentle smack-down into your belly when you most need it?
I meditated for 45 minutes today which is a new record for me. It did not make me happy to sit down to meditate. In fact, I was pretty grumpy. It was 100% nourishing even if it was a pain in the ass to do it. It bust open my heart, and I’m feeling a lot of love for all of you. And I have no idea who you even are. But… I love you.
And I wish you all the nourishment your beautiful heart can possibly handle. Let’s all cultivate a nourishment mindset.
